Portuguese citizen among six Israeli hostages to be released Saturday

One of six Israeli hostages due to be released on Saturday by Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas also has Portuguese nationality, Gabriel Senderowicz, president of the Israeli Community of Porto (CIP), has told Lusa.

“Israel has just announced the release, next Saturday, of six hostages, including Omer Shem Tov, who was in the process of obtaining nationality and has already obtained it, according to the Portuguese ambassador to Israel, (who) confided (this to) his family at the end of January,ā€ said Senderowicz today.

His release “will be a great joy for Omer’s family, especially his father, Malki Shem Tov, who is a full Portuguese citizen, as he belongs to a traditional Moroccan Sephardic family, with the surnames Hassan and Eskenazi,” the community leader added.
