Morgado do Quintão’s Vinhas Velhas 2022 is the region’s first wine to be voted one of the year’s “30 Best Wines” by Revista de Vinhos.
Morgado do Quintão’s Vinhas Velhas 2022 was named one of Revista de Vinhos’ “30 Best Wines of 2024”. It is the first-ever Algarve wine to make this exclusive selection of top national wines.
Regarded as a wine authority in Portugal, the Revista de Vinhos hosted its annual awards in Porto last week. Celebrating the best of the national wine industry, the awards are often referred to as the “Grammys of Wine” in Portugal.
“Out of thousands of wines tasted, we stood out. Why? Because we’re stubborn, passionate, and just a little crazy about our old vines”, says Filipe Caldas de Vasconcellos, CEO of the Morgado do Quintão winery. “This award is for our tireless team, our scrappy two hectares of Old Vines, and the Algarve – a region rewriting its wine story, one bottle at a time.”
The Morgado do Quintão’s Vinhas Velhas 2022 (€28) is a white wine made with the fruit of 50-year-old Crato Branco vines, a variety known to produce delicate, fresh and elegant wines. Its citrine-yellow colour results from its partial ageing in neutral barrels. On the nose, it is fruity and floral. On the palate, it is well-rounded, revealing viscosity and delicate acidity, with a long and intense finish. It is ideally paired with grilled fish and seafood.
