Aljezur hires new family doctor for Rogil and Odeceixe

Four doctors currently provide care for over 6,700 patients in the municipality; approximately 1000 are still without a family doctor.

The municipality of Aljezur announced that, as of today, its Personalized Health Care Unit (UCSP) has a new General and Family Medicine doctor to reinforce health care in the Odeceixe and Rogil hubs and thus ensure more assistance to the population.

Medical consultations were resumed by doctor Ana Filomena Belo this week and will be distributed as follows: Odeceixe on Mondays and Thursdays; Aljezur with reinforcement on Wednesdays; and Rogil on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Until now, the municipality of Aljezur had three National Health Service (SNS) doctors, including one hired by a private company. With the arrival of Dr Ana Filomena Belo, four doctors are now providing care for over 6,700 patients registered in the municipality, with about a thousand still without a family doctor.

“With this reinforcement, we intend to improve the response to the population’s needs, ensuring more effective and equitable access to health care in the municipality”, highlights the municipality in a statement.

The municipality also pointed out that it currently provides a financial housing incentive to doctors who work exclusively at the Aljezur Health Centre, as well as at the Odeceixe and Rogil Poles.
