From March 3 to 28, the Homeless Planning and Intervention Centre is collecting both summer and warm clothing.
The Lagos Homeless Planning and Intervention Centre (NPISA) is organising two charity drives this year to collect clothing for the homeless.
The first campaign, running from 3 to 28 March 2025, aims to collect both summer and warm clothing to ensure basic comfort for those in greatest need. “Despite the more favourable weather in spring and summer, it is essential to protect against the sun during the day and to provide comfort at night, which can be chilly for individuals living on the streets,” says the organisation.
This initiative holds significant importance as, by December 2024, the municipality of Lagos recorded 116 homeless individuals, 106 of whom were without shelter (residing in public spaces, emergency shelters, or insecure accommodation), and 10 were in temporary housing. Confronted with this reality, the campaign highlights the necessity of supporting this vulnerable population and raising awareness within the community about the issue of social exclusion.
The community is invited to contribute by donating clothes and other essential items, including summer clothing like T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, trousers, and tracksuits; underwear such as socks, underwear, and bras; bath towels; and warm clothing like blankets, sleeping bags, coats, scarves, and hats.
Donations can be made at the Lagos Solidarity Resource Bank, located at Rua José Afonso, Lote 23, Cave B – Lagos (formerly Loja da Água), during the following hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 15:00 to 17:00, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 12:00.
The campaign involves the collaboration of the Lagos Solidarity Resource Bank, which receives the donations, and the entities MAPS – Movement to Support the Problem of AIDS and Instituto Fonte Vida (IFV), which distribute the goods to homeless individuals.
