Portimão’s Municipal Water and Waste Company – EMARP has launched “SejaCãosciente” (BeDogAware), a new social media campaign aimed at promoting urban cleanliness among animal lovers, with the help of a distinctive mascot.

This innovative and engaging approach, featuring Jackie, a friendly dog, aims to raise awareness about dog waste collection and promote the responsible adoption of animals from the Portimão Municipal Kennel.

According to the campaign, Jackie the dog has recently assumed a very special role: she has been elected President of the Parish Council of Doggos in Portimão!

“In her inaugural speech, Jackie made her mission clear: Encouraging residents to be more responsible, treat us kindly, and maintain our city’s beauty and health, free from unpleasant surprises”, narrates EMARP on its social networks. “At her side is the loyal Vice-President Dexter, who oversees the “Zero Waste” portfolio, concentrating on separating and properly disposing of waste”.

The municipality insists that “this mission requires additional volunteers—and that’s where responsible pet owners and their pets come in”, inviting followers to actively participate in the campaign. Owners and dogs can join the “Canine Citizenship Committee”, taking on different roles and sharing their experiences.

“Through humour, education, and active participation, this initiative aims to foster a genuine community of responsible owners and to transform Portimão into the most animal and environmentally friendly city,” concludes the organisation.
