Cadela Carlota is participating in a food collection drive
You may have seen us and other local charities collecting at supermarkets. These collections are vital for us in ensuring animals in shelters, on the streets, and in struggling households have the food and supplies they need. Every donation helps prevent abandonment and improves animal welfare in the Algarve.
The “Banco Solidário Animal” (BSA), a nationwide campaign led by Lisbon-based Animalife, is making a significant difference in the lives of countless animals across Portugal, including here in the Algarve. By partnering with major supermarket chains, the BSA collects essential supplies for animal shelters and vulnerable families.
Feeding hope, one bag at a time
The BSA operates on two fronts: in-store donations and voucher purchases. Local charities like us, here in Lagos, participate directly, receiving donations at assigned supermarkets. We are responsible for distributing the goods to animals in our care, street colonies, and families facing financial hardship.
In 2024 alone, Cadela Carlota participated in seven BSA campaigns, amassing a staggering 3,321 kg of dog food, 1,890 kg of cat food, and 954 kg of cat litter. These vital supplies not only sustain the animals under our direct care but also extend to those living on the streets and in struggling households, preventing potential abandonment.
A lifeline for local animals
The financial burden of animal care is substantial. We spend an average of €630 monthly on dog food, €640 on cat food, and €300 on cat litter. The BSA campaigns are crucial for balancing our budget and ensuring these animals receive the care they deserve.
March 8-9: Lend a hand to local animals in need
Mark your calendars! Cadela Carlota is hosting our first 2025 BSA campaign on the weekend of March 8 and 9 at Pingo Doce, Lagos Marina. This is a fantastic opportunity to directly impact the lives of animals in your community.
To make this campaign a success, volunteers are urgently needed for three-hour shifts: 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, 3pm-6pm, and 6pm-9pm.
If you are out shopping that weekend and see us, please say hello, offer a simile and help in any way you can.
Contact Cadela Carlota through our social media pages, or visit the Animalife website for more information on how to support the BSA. Every hour of your time, and every donated item, makes a real difference. Let’s work together to ensure the welfare of the Algarve’s animals.
