One of the greatest challenges is finding suitable foster families for young animals.
Our recent food collection campaign, organized by Animalife and Pingo Doce, was a tremendous success! Thanks to our supporters and volunteers, we collected an impressive 315 kg of dog food, 145 kg of cat food, and 50 kg of cat litter – all going directly to animals in need.
The challenge of fostering: a heartbreaking reality
While our fundraising efforts help sustain our work, one of the greatest challenges we face is finding suitable foster families for young animals. Despite thorough assessments and support, many new fosterers are unprepared for the demands of caring for a kitten or puppy. Sadly, this often leads to animals being returned within days, which is heartbreaking for the pet, the family, and our volunteers.
Emma, one of our dedicated volunteers, shares some valuable advice: “One of the main issues, particularly with cats, is that first-time pet owners are often drawn to kittens because they’re small, fluffy, and adorable. However, kittens are not ideal for beginners. They require constant attention, can have sensitive stomachs, and need proper socialization. Many experienced cat owners know that adopting two kittens together is actually easier than raising one alone, as they entertain and comfort each other.”
Fostering and adopting are rewarding but require preparation, patience, and a long-term commitment. If you are considering fostering or adopting, we encourage you to reach out to our team for guidance.
Meet Bubbles!
One of our fosters, Bubbles, has been in foster care for almost a month now. He was found on the street in terrible condition – malnourished, suffering from flu, and already blind in one eye. Thanks to loving foster care, he has adapted beautifully to home life. Now three months old and small in size, Bubbles is affectionate, gentle, and ready for a forever home. Would you like to meet him?
Looking ahead: adoption events and more
We have several adoption events coming up where you can meet wonderful animals like Bubbles who are looking for their forever homes. Stay tuned for details on our website and social media. If you’re interested in volunteering, fostering, or adopting, we’d love to hear from you!
