But will final report be drawn up in time, before parliament dissolved?
The commission of inquiry into the case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twins today rejected in its entirety the proposed report prepared by rapporteur, Cristina Rodrigues, of CHEGA, the only party to vote in favor.
The body of the report, the conclusions and the recommendations presented by Rodrigues received the same vote, with CHEGA being the only party to vote in favour. All the others voted against.
“The report presented by the CHEGA party, through rapporteur Cristina Rodrigues, was rejected by the committee,” announced committee president Rui Paulo Sousa (also of CHEGA) at the end of the vote.
The proposed report accused the President of the Republic of “abuse of power”, considering his conduct “especially reprehensible”.
The report presented to the press in a form jarring with normal procedure also considered it “absolutely evident” that former Secretary of State for Health António Lacerda Sales “interfered in this process, having given an express and unequivocal order to schedule the appointment, knowing full well that what was intended was not a mere consultation, but rather treatment with Zolgensma” – described as the most expensive drug in the world.
The commission of inquiry is now focused on reaching its final conclusions before parliament is dissolved tomorrow ahead of snap elections in May.
