Madeira elections: PSD “on verge of absolute majority”

Party led by Miguel Albuquerque on track for between 21-24 MPs

Just as a poll released last week forecast, PSD social democrats in Madeira are on the verge of winning an absolute majority in today’s regional government elections.

According to a projection by the Catholic University for RTP (state broadcaster), the party led by Miguel Albuquerque could elect between 21 and 24 MPs. 21/22 and 23 would not cut it (without an alliance/ coalition agreement which other parties have ostensibly refused); 24 would.

The projection was released at 7pm, suggesting the ruling party, scuppered twice in the last 18 months due to its minority make-up, could return with between 41% and 46% of the votes.

The regional parliament has a total of 47 seats.
