Second small plane in two days crashes close to aerodrome

Two people on board “not seriously injured”

A second small plane has crashed today, this time near the aerodrome in Cernache, Coimbra. Emergency services have been mobilised, but everything points to the two occupants of the plane suffering only light injuries.

This was also the fortunate result of the first crash, into trees also close to an aerodrome (Cerval aerodrome, near Vila Nova de Cerveira).

At this point, causes of this accident are unclear.

The crash on Wednesday, also involving two people on board, was described at the time, by the aerodrome director as “a rare thing; something that hardly ever happens”. The plane was being used for a pilot’s exam, and there appears to have been no form of equipment or engine failure.

As to today’s incident, further details may emerge later. ND
