Municipal Archive will be created, as well as new parking, street and public square
The municipal council of Lagoa has officially purchased the old Caves Dom Teodósio warehouse, currently home to a store called Alibaba, in a major move to kickstart the redevelopment of a key area of the town.
The building will be transformed into Lagoa’s future Municipal Archive, centralising documents that are currently scattered across multiple municipal buildings. According to the council, the goal is to improve how the documents organised and create a more efficient system for managing public records.
But the plan goes far beyond just creating the new municipal archive building. The surrounding area will also be upgraded, with a new car park and a new road bordering the existing Rua General Humberto Delgado, which will be widened, all aimed at easing local traffic and improving circulation.
As part of the same urban project, the area around CEFLA (Lagoa’s Centre for Studies and Training) and the Municipal Pavilion is also getting a major facelift, with plans to create a new public square and a two-level parking garage, described as a much-needed solution to the long-standing parking shortage in the neighbourhood. Says the council, the new parking is designed to support growing demand from visitors to CEFLA, the Municipal Pavilion, and the public swimming pools, as well as other local services. However, the plan will involve relocating the existing multi-sport court another part of the town. Meanwhile, the entire area will see a complete overhaul of essential infrastructure, including water supply, sewage systems, public lighting, and telecom networks, the council adds.
In the future, there are plans to open a new General Jurisdiction Courtroom and a branch of the National Registry and Notary Institute (IRN) at the CEFLA site, which the council says will boost the offer of public services for Lagoa residents and visitors alike.
At the same time, the local authority is working on solutions to expand parking near the municipal pools.
