Luís Dâmaso was dead by time authorities reached scene
A man in his 50s was bludgeoned to death yesterday afternoon by men who burst in to the Lagoa Azul restaurant in Mortágua, Viseu district, at a point when there were no clients.
According to reports, Luís Dâmaso – who was renting business – “resisted the assault”, which led to the vicious attack that took his life.
He was in the restaurant with at least one employee who was later found tied up and locked in a separate area.
It is not clear how the alert was raised. But the surviving employee’s statement will be “fundamental to helping to understand the circumstances in which everything happened”, writes Correio da Manhã tabloid.
The employee was not injured.
This far, it is unclear how many people were involved in the attack; if anything was actually taken – and how the attackers arrived, and later left.
The restaurant is in an isolated spot on the IP3, close to the Aguieira dam.
CM says that the attackers “waited for a moment when there were no clients to conduct the robbery”.
As yet, there are few further details. Luís Dâmaso’s body was reportedly discovered tied up on the first floor. The suspects are ‘at large’. A motive is unclear. ND
