Man arrested for attempted murder in Lagos

Childhood acquaintances got into a row after one of the men fired several shots into the air “for fun”

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Lagos on suspicion of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm, PJ police announced this week.

The incident dates back to December 2024 when tensions flared between two men, described as childhood acquaintances and neighbors. According to a police statement, the row erupted after one of the men fired several shots into the air “for fun” in a public street. The victim reportedly confronted him about the reckless behavior.

A few days later, the two men crossed paths again, with the man who fired the shots accusing the other of tarnishing his reputation. He then unexpectedly pulled out a gun and fired at least six shots in his direction, PJ police say, adding that it was a matter of luck that none of the bullets hit the victim. The suspect fled the scene immediately after.

Following an investigation, PJ agents located the suspect and carried out a search at his residence, where they seized several firearms and air guns.

During the same operation, police also arrested a 20-year-old man who was staying at the property after he was caught red-handed for drug trafficking.

Both men were due to appear before a judge for questioning and to determine further legal measures.

The case is being handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Lagos.
