Licenses granted for 700 e-scooters and 100 e-bikes
Since Tuesday (April 15), Faro has two newly licensed operators offering shared electric scooters and bicycles. The licenses, granted after a public tender held on January 15, are valid for two years and may be renewed annually for up to four years.
Mobility company Lime secured one license to operate 350 e-scooters and 100 electric bicycles, while Bolt obtained a license for 350 e-scooters.
Faro has promoted shared micro-mobility since 2019 through pilot partnerships. In May 2024, the city introduced its Soft Mobility Regulation, creating clear rules for users of public space, including parking and circulation for shared vehicles.
This regulation also set the framework for licensing operators and outlines penalties for violations, such as improper parking of scooters and bikes. The initiative aims to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion through sustainable transport options.
Details about the licensing process and the full regulation are available at Faro’s Department of Infrastructure and Urban Planning, the Citizen’s Service Desk, or on the municipality’s website.
