Tragic accident happened on the IC1 road
A 20-year-old woman died on Friday (May 2) following a serious road accident on the IC1 road in São Marcos da Serra, in the municipality of Silves.
According to a source from Portugal’s Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the crash involved a heavy goods vehicle and a passenger car at kilometre 771 of the IC1.
Emergency services were alerted at 5.05pm and dispatched 20 responders to the site, including firefighters from Silves, INEM medical teams and GNR police officers. A medical helicopter was also dispatched, however, the victim was already dead by the time it arrived.
Traffic was only fully restored at around 8pm after the road was closed in both directions as teams worked to clear the wreckage.
No other injuries were reported.
