Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) to promote the region abroad
May will be a busy month for the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) as it ramps up efforts to promote the region in international markets before the start of the bustling summer season.
From familiarisation trips (fam trips) to high-profile events, the Algarve will be focusing on showcasing its main assets in several key markets like the US, Canada, and Europe.
A standout initiative is the series of fam trips that will take place, aimed at travel agents and media professionals. Four visits will be hosted in partnership with airlines including Norwegian, PLAY Airlines, United Airlines, and EasyJet, allowing industry players to explore the region up close, gaining an authentic experience to pass on to their clients.
In addition, seven journalists from major European markets – Germany, Iceland, France, Poland, Austria, and Switzerland – will visit the Algarve. These press trips are expected to result in valuable media coverage, helping to spread the word about the region’s appeal to a broad audience. According to ATA president André Gomes, these journalists are “crucial allies” in building the Algarve’s notoriety abroad.
The Algarve will also target the American market in May, attending major events such as the Portugal Roadshow, ILTM Latin America, and L.E. Miami.
Golf tourism is another major focus for the Algarve this month. The region will be represented at the European IAGTO Convention, a key event for golf tourism professionals. The Algarve will use this opportunity to further cement its reputation as a premier golf destination, meeting with buyers and tour operators from around the world, Gomes highlighted.
