A fisherman’s feast for you

In its fifteenth year, the Festas do Pescador (Feasts of the Fisherman) festival will return to Albufeira this weekend, beginning tonight (September 7) at 6pm, and will continue until Sunday.

The event is celebrated at Praia dos Pescadores, where a wide range of stalls will be set up to sell foodstuffs of the sea and accompanying beverages.

Each day from 6pm guests can enjoy typical Portuguese dishes, made from seafood caught by local fisherman in Algarve waters such as mackerel, shellfish, cockles, cuttlefish, sardines, prawns and other delicacies.

For those who enjoy the sweeter things in life there will be traditional baked treats, including almond cakes (bolo amêndoa) and sweet rice (arroz doce).

Whilst dining, visitors to the festival will be entertained by regional artists Nuno Balbino, Valter Cabrita, the Alhada Band and the Luel Dancers Group.

Performances by the Folklore Group of Albufeira, Folklore Group Penela from Coimbra, plus the Singers and Dancers Group of Setúbal and Lisbon, will also take place.
