A passion for carpentry

FOR 40 YEARS George Whitfield’s passion has been carpentry.

Originally from Hoylake-in-the-Wirral in the UK, George moved with his family to the Algarve seven years ago where he continued to make all manner of items in wood.

Working from his own designs, George can create everything from bedroom furniture to kitchens and tables.

His designs can be viewed and/or purchased at his showroom in Almancil where his wife, Sue, is on hand to offer any assistance.

The showroom was opened a year ago and is situated on the EN125 in between Almancil and Faro.

Working primarily with pine, oak and beech, George has a large customer base in Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. He delivers all along the Algarve and has even worked as far afield as Castelo Branco and Beja.

Renovation

George is happy to create traditional or contemporary furniture and usually gets a feel of what his clients are looking for by visiting their homes.

“I usually come away with lots of ideas and styles,” he said.

He can also spray existing furniture and doors to give them a new lease of life and particularly popular with the expat community is his renovation of kitchens, where he keeps the existing carcasses and replaces the old doors with new ones, “which is far cheaper than going to the expense of having a brand new kitchen”, said George.

George’s showroom is open from 10am until 4pm Monday to Friday, closed on weekends.
