ADN endorses Joana Amaral Dias for 2026 presidential race

The Alternativa Democrática Nacional (ADN) conservative party has officially endorsed Joana Amaral Dias as its candidate for Portugal’s 2026 presidential elections.

In a statement released today, ADN announced that its National Council ratified the decision after the party’s political commission unanimously approved backing Amaral Dias.

“Our choice fell on Joana Amaral Dias for her unparalleled defence of fundamental freedoms, rights, and guarantees of the Portuguese people. She is a patriot, a pacifist, and a sovereigntist – someone whose values align with the principles of the ADN,” said party president Bruno Fialho, quoted in the communiqué.

Joana Amaral Dias, a psychologist and political activist, was ADN’s candidate in the European elections, and has also run for the Lisbon municipal council under the Nós, Cidadãos movement and previously served as a deputy for the Bloco de Esquerda.
