Decision made “due to end of year festivities”
The independent technical commission has extended the December 19 deadline for public consultation on the environmental report for the new airport by another week, until January 26, due to the end-of-year festivities.
With absolutely nothing ‘clear’ following another year of expert analysis – the commission’s ‘best option’ of Alcochete is far from being universally applauded – the next step in this process will be the drawing up of a final report, including contributions (from public consultation) that show “rationality”, “merit”, “opportunity and technical relevance”.
Then the document will be ‘ready’ for the incoming government (following elections), potentially to decide something completely different…
Pedro Nuno Santos, the possible ‘favourite’ for the next prime minister (should PS Socialists win the March elections) has at least intimated, if it is up to him, a future government would move on the commission’s option of Alcochete.
His ‘competitor’ for leader of the party has said he would be inclined to respect the agreement with the PSD to move forwards with a jointly accepted location – and PSD’s Luís Montenegro, the next PM IF elections swing to country to the right, has intimated that he is still open to plumping for Montijo (the preferred choice of concession holder ANA…)
