Al-Mutamid Music Festival enchants Lagoa

On February 22, the 25th edition of the Andalusi Music Festival will fill the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium with oriental music and dance.

The Carlos do Carmo Auditorium will once again host the beloved Al-Mutamid Music Festival.

Returning for its 25th edition, the much-anticipated event will feature a performance by the Al-Qarawiyin Orchestra accompanied by an Arab-Andalusian dancer on February 22.

The show is scheduled to start at 19h00.

Tickets cost €10 and are already on sale online and at the usual ticket office.

Synopsis:

With the Moriscos’ expulsion from Spain in the 17th century to North Africa, Andalusi music spread throughout the Maghreb. It evolved in a distinct form with different names: Al-Alâ (Morocco), Gharnâtî (Algeria), and Ma`luf ( Tunisia and Libya).

The Al-Qarawiyin Orchestra aims to take the spectator on a sound journey through Andalusian music, which has echoed for centuries in the most cultured and sophisticated places in Al-Andalus.

In this show, the Orchestra will collaborate with an Arab-Andalusian dancer who will delight the audience with dances from the period of Muslim domination (711-1492) and the Morisca period (1492-1609) in al-Andalus.
