With the highest number of flags awarded, the Municipality continues to set the standard in the Algarve.

This year, out of 92 blue flags awarded in the Algarve, Albufeira hoisted 26, making it the location with the most trusted flags in the region.

The beaches that will see the flag hoisted this year are: Alemães, Arrifes, Aveiros, Belharucas, Castelo, Coelha, Evaristo, Falésia Açoteias, Falésia Alfamar, Galé-Leste, Galé-Oeste, INATEL – Albufeira, Manuel Lourenço, Maria Luísa, Olhos de Água, Oura, Oura-Leste, Peneco, Pescadores, Rocha Baixinha, Rocha Baixinha-East, Rocha Baixinha-West, São Rafael, Salgados, Santa Eulália and Albufeira Marina.

To mark the achievement, the Municipality proudly hosted a Blue Flag Raising Ceremony on June 7 on the Praia dos Pescadores. The event was attended by members of the Executive, the president of the Municipal Assembly, presidents of the parish councils of the Municipality, and representatives of the Maritime Authority, the National Republican Guard, the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA/ARH), the Albufeira Lifeguard Association (ANSA), and the Albufeira Health Delegate.

Albufeira Mayor José Carlos Rolo expressed with satisfaction that “this is a moment of great importance for Albufeira as it reflects the ongoing effort to preserve the environment and promote sustainable tourism”.

The Mayor revealed that “it is a joy, year after year, to carry out this ritual of hoisting the flags on all the beaches, proof of the Executive’s commitment and dedication to maintaining water quality and preserving the municipality’s beaches”.

The Regional Director of the Algarve River Basin Administration at the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA/ARH), Pedro Coelho, said on the day of the event, “The titles attest to the quality of the tourist destination and become a calling card for the municipality”.

“A series of interventions have been developed to mitigate possible complications in water quality, risks of collapse, increase safety and reduce consumption”, he stressed.

Thus, with the 26 Blue Flags, Albufeira reaffirms itself as an example of environmental excellence and commitment to sustainability, attracting visitors from all over the world.

It is worth remembering that the Blue Flag is a symbol of environmental quality awarded annually to beaches, marinas, and recreational vessels that comply with strict ecological, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria.
