54 animals rescued between January 1 and July 31 in Albufeira

The volunteer firefighters of Albufeira were called to rescue or assist 54 animals between January 1 and July 31 this year.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the firefighters say that some of the animals were run over, while others were stuck in hard-to-reach areas, from pipes and wells to trees, roofs and cliffs.

The volunteer brigade adds that it has firefighters assigned to every shift with “specific training in the area of animal first-aid”. Furthermore, with the help of “benefactors”, the brigade has been able to “purchase equipment to provide first-aid and assistance to animals in cases of emergency.”

The Albufeira volunteer firefighters also hold several courses through its training centre, one of which focuses on ‘First Aid for Pet Animals’.
