Albufeira to host “biggest New Year’s party in Portugal”

‘Albufeira Carpe Nox 2025’ unveiled on Tuesday

Albufeira has unveiled the programme for its New Year’s party ‘Albufeira Carpe Nox 2025’, which it says will be the “biggest New Year’s celebration in Portugal”.

Algarve singer Dino D’Santiago will begin the festivities at the beachside square Praça dos Pescadores on December 30 at 10pm, followed by iconic Portuguese rock band Xutos e Pontapés at the same time and location on December 31, while the countdown to 2025 will be marked by a “never-before-seen choreography with synchronised lasers and pyrotechnics and the biggest drone show ever produced in Portugal.” Entertainment will continue into the night with a set by DJ Diego Miranda.

Presenting the event earlier this week, Albufeira mayor José Carlos Rolo said ‘Albufeira Carpe Nox’ has already established itself as a “key brand” in terms of New Year’s programmes across Portugal and internationally.

“Last year, almost all television channels showed images of the event, and many people who watched felt inspired to attend the New Year’s Eve celebration in Albufeira,” the mayor said.

There will be more to enjoy in Albufeira than just the ‘Carpe Nox’ party, however, with a wide range of events taking place between the end of December and the first week of January, such as the Paderne Medieval fair, Albufeira’s Christmas festivities, and other “cultural and sports events.”

In his speech, Rolo also called on businessowners once again to stay open during the festive season so that “visitors have things to do and places to eat.” To address the issue in 2023, the municipality launched the ‘Street Food Without Borders’ event, featuring food and beverages from around the world—”an initiative we plan to continue this year,” the mayor said.

Desidério Silva, a former mayor of Albufeira and president of the regional tourism board who now leads the Albufeira Promotion Agency (APAL), also attended the presentation of the town’s New Year’s programme, having stressed how unusual it is for a municipality to announce its New Year’s plans in August.

What we are doing is a step ahead of what is done in other places, which demonstrates the tourism potential of Albufeira as a New Year’s Eve destination on a national level,” said Silva.

“We need to attract tourists with greater financial capacity who respect the area and our traditions. This is everyone’s responsibility, but also business owners’ responsibility who must work to enhance the brand so that Albufeira becomes a quality destination. If this remains the focus, the municipality can count on APAL and its members,” he added.
