In the surreal political goings-on in Madeira since mainland prosecutors descended on the island for a corruption probe at the start of the year, outgoing governor (vowing to return) Miguel Albuquerque will have opposition in his renewed bid for political power. Former environment secretary of the regional government, Manuel António Correia, has put his name forwards to challenge Miguel Albuquerque in the internal elections (for PSD regional leader) set to take place on March 21.
