Portugal’s Alentejo is currently “one of the regions” in the country with “more consolidated and relevant” tourism growth indicators, compared to the national average, Secretary of State for Tourism, Pedro Machado, has emphasised. Speaking at a ceremony in the area around the Alqueva dam, on the side of the district of Moura (Beja) on Wednesday, Machado praised the work that has “certainly been done over the decades” in the tourism sector, and which now “sees its epicentre in an ever greater relationship with external markets that it didn’t have” – making the Alentejo “less and less dependent on the internal market and more relevant to international markets“.
