Alentejo wine tourism sees 27% increase in visitors

Wine tourism in the Alentejo grew by 27% last year, compared to 2022, with visitors from Portugal leading the ‘ranking’, followed by those from Brazil and North America, the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA) said today. The commission’s president Francisco Mateus said in a statement that wine tourism has become a benchmark for tourism in the region, contributing to boosting the local economy. With 23,300 hectares of vineyards – and one of only two regions in the world that has been producing Vinho de Talha (wine in amphorae) for over 2,000 years- the Alentejo is the nation’s leader in certified wines, responsible for around 40% of total sales out of 14 wine-growing regions.
