An open-air concert held at the Algarve Art Retreat in Loulé recently raised just over €1,000 for the Bombeiros.
Wesley Seme, on piano and vocals, brought the audience to their feet and some even joined him on stage for his encore.
John Evans and Doina gave a very professional performance of popular ballads and standards and Clube de Danças João de Deus set the scene with their tango, jive and rumba dancing in exquisite costumes.
‘Red For Passion’ was the theme for the evening and the guests arrived suitable dressed in the colour to drink wine from local vineyard Quinta da Tôr and enjoy the canapes produced by caterer to Hollywood stars, Sally Riccardi.
Sunshine Catering Algarve, who had taken the initiative to provide food for the firefighters on the front line during the recent fires in Monchique, produced a “wrap buffet” for the interval.
Paintings donated by local artists, including the hostess Uschi Kuhn, were auctioned.
São Brás firefighter Alex Barcia, who was involved in the 9/11 disaster in New York, was on hand to speak with the guests and tell them about the Portuguese Fire Service.
