LIGA PORTUGAL BETCLIC: FC PORTO 2-1 FARENSE
LIGA PORTUGAL 2: TORREENSE 3-2 PORTIMONENSE
Portimonense travelled north last Friday evening and were more than a little unlucky not to leave Torreense with at least a point.
The hosts did get off to the better start, with Pozo proving a constant threat, but it was Vando Félix who put the home side ahead after 20 minutes. Portimonense returned with renewed determination following the break and a great Paulo Vítor strike only five minutes into the half pulled the visitors level. Chico Banza then gave manager Ricardo Pessoa’s men the lead from a 68th-minute corner and all seemed well. However, Alemão, only on the pitch two minutes for the tiring Jefferson, was then suckered into fouling Paraizo for which he received a straight red card, the same Torreense player adding insult to injury by scoring an 83rd-minute equaliser. The referee then indicated nine minutes of time added and….Torreense scored the winner from the penalty spot in the FOURTEENTH minute!
Portimonense are in Portuguese FA Cup second round action next at third division Vianense on Saturday morning before the league program continues with a home match against top-placed Penafiel the following Saturday evening.
Farense took on Porto last Sunday afternoon and had a combination of the woodwork – four strikes! – and keeper Ricardo Velho’s heroic efforts – ten saves! – to thank for the goalless half time score line. A Galeno penalty finally allowed the hosts to go ahead just after the interval, but Tomané struck back almost immediately to pull the Algarveans level. That was the cue for €15 million 20-year-old Spanish-Nigerian summer signing Samu Aghehowa Omorodion to seal his impressive debut with the winner for Porto.
Farense, still pointless and bottom of the table, play Arouca next on Sunday evening.
