F.A. CUP 4th ROUND: AROUCA 1-2 FARENSE
LIGA PORTUGAL 2 MEU SUPER: PORTIMONENSE 0-2 BENFICA B
Last Saturday afternoon Farense returned to winning action in their FA Cup fourth round tie at Arouca. The team from the Algarve’s capital took an early lead through Dario Poveda only for Trezza to take advantage of a mistake by reserve keeper Kaique to put the home side level after 15 minutes.
Just after the half-hour mark in-form Elves Balde restored the Algarveans’ lead by letting fly from a tight angle and Farense spent the remaining hour of the match successfully defending their advantage.
The draw for the last 16 of the competition now sees Benfica, who thrashed Estrela Amadora 7-0, returning to the Algarve during the last week before Christmas. Before then, the above-mentioned Amadora side, three places above Farense in the Liga Portugal Betclic table, is coming south this Friday evening for a resumption of league action.
Last Saturday morning’s second division catch-up game between Portimonense and Benfica B provided for an entertaining first half, although only the visitors proved capable of putting away one of a hatful of chances at either end just before the half-hour mark. The encounter petered out following the restart and Benfica finally made sure of the result with a penalty minutes before full time.
Portimonense continue their quest of climbing out of the bottom half of the table this Saturday afternoon when currently joint fourth-placed Chaves are the visitors to the Municipal Stadium.
