Farense have added 24-year-old ex-Atlético de Madrid B winger Alex Calatrava and 27-year-old ex-Getafe striker Darío Poveda to their growing contingent of Spanish players already featuring earlier signings Marco Moreno and Alex Bermejo as well as stalwart Fran Delgado.
The whole squad, including previous summer signings Kaique, Lucas Áfrico, Raul Silva and Ângelo Neto, were in action earlier this week against the club’s U-23 side with the rotated A-team emerging the 5-1 winners.
Farense will kick off the new season at home against Moreirense in a month’s time with the first big occasion coming up as early as August 25 when Sporting Lisbon come to visit the Algarve.
Now second division Portimonense are continuing to trim their oversized squad with forwards Ronie Carrillo and Berto the latest to depart for Brazilian side Juventude and Romania’s University Cluj respectively.
The west Algarveans return to serious action on August 11 away at Felgueiras and make their home debut the following weekend against União de Leiria.
