Algarve football round-up: Warm-ups

Farense have quickly replaced record Red Star Belgrade transfer Bruno Duarte with much-travelled Portuguese forward Tomané who most recently enjoyed successful spells with Samsunspor in Turkey and Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia.

The 31-year-old made his debut during last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Al Nassr which also saw the return in goal of the fully recovered Ricardo Velho. Earlier, supposedly Marseille-bound Mohamed Belloumi scored the only goal in another pre-season friendly against Marítimo.

Meanwhile, new Portimonense manager Sérgio Vieira is still fine-tuning his squad with €300,000 19-year-old Brazilian striker Ruan and 25-year-old Swedish ex-Tondela keeper Philip Tear coming in and Lucas Silva leaving for FC Seoul in an €800,000 deal.

So far, the Algarveans, who have unveiled Umbro as their new kit sponsor, have failed to win any of their warm-up matches with 2-0 losses to Sporting and Vitória de Guimarães and 0-0 and 1-1 draws with Marítimo and Covilhã respectively. It will have been their turn to play Al Nassr on Wednesday night (after the Resident went to press) in front of their fans at the Municipal Stadium.
