Algarve has 10 resorts among Europe’s golfing elite

The Algarve has proved once again that it is one of the world’s premier golf destinations, with Golf World’s newly-released ‘Top 100 European Golf Resorts’ list including 10 of the region’s resorts.

In fact, the Algarve is the most popular region on the list with 10 entries, which stretch the entirety of the Algarve’s coastline.

Quinta da Ria and Monte Rei in Vila Nova de Cacela are the representatives in the eastern Algarve, while San Lorenzo, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Pestana Vila Sol and Pine Cliffs were the selected golf destinations in the centre. In the Western Algarve, the awarded resorts were Amendoeira, Penina and Onyria Palmares.

Maria Manuel Delgado e Silva, the Algarve’s golf product manager, said: “The Golf World Top 100 European Resorts is a valuable resource for choosing golf holidays and shows, once again, just how popular the Algarve is for all visiting golfers.

“It’s always a privilege for us to welcome our guests, whether they are regular visitors or coming to the Algarve for the first time. There are so many fantastic resorts to enjoy and it gives us all great pleasure to know that our region remains more popular than ever.”

As the Algarve tourism association (ATA) points out, the region also boasts many outstanding stand-alone courses, including Dom Pedro Victoria in Vilamoura, which hosted the Portugal Masters event once again.

“As an appetiser to the forthcoming Ryder Cup”, there was added interest with European team members Sergio Garcia and Thorbjorn Olesen both in the field as they warmed up for the event in Paris. Vice-captain Padraig Harrrington – the 2016 champion at Victoria – was also in the star-studded line-up, said ATA.
