The Algarve Walking Season project has announced the launch of its new website and a new hiking festival next year.
The Algarve Walking Season project, established to encourage walking festivals in the region’s rural areas, has just announced its lineup of walking festivals. The new schedule was made public at the same time as the debut of a new website designed to attract more visitors to the area during the low season.
According to the organisation, the new Algarve Walking Season website “brings together the region’s main hiking events throughout the year, enabling hikers to easily consult the calendar of all walking festivals in the area, as well as their locations and main characteristics”. Additionally, the new website offers regular news on the festivals and hiking options available in the Algarve.
The organisation also announced the new Santa Bárbara de Nexe Walking Festival, which will be held for the first time in 2025 on February 7, 8 and 9, and whose theme will be dedicated to popular culture.
Still this year, hiking enthusiasts have the opportunity to participate in two festivals: the Barão de São João Walk & Art Fest, which takes place on November 1, 2 and 3 and combines walks with art, and the Monchique Walking Festival, which takes place on November 29 and 30 and December 1, to celebrate the theme of water.
Completing the agenda are the “Alcoutim and Sanlúcar de Guadiana Caminheiros” hiking festival, “Experiences on the Border”, which celebrates nature, culture and cross-border hospitality on the weekend of March 7, 8 and 9, 2025, and, in the municipality of Loulé, the Ameixial Walking Festival, the oldest walking festival in the Algarve, which returns between April 25 and 28, 2025.
The Algarve Walking Season is supported by the Algarve Tourism Region and the Algarve Tourism Association, as well as the entities promoting the various festivals: Alcoutim City Council, Monchique City Council, Lagos City Council, Associação Almargem and Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe.
