Concert features Varoujan Bartikian (cello) and Irene Ainstein (piano)
The Algarve History Association’s (AHA) first concert of the new year features “old friend” Varoujan Bartikian on the cello and Irene Ainstein at the piano. This concert will take place on Sunday, January 12, at 4pm at Quintinha da Música, near Tavira.
Varoujan has recently retired from his position as principal cello at the Gulbenkian Orchestra. “He is currently in demand as a soloist, and we are lucky that he has found the time to appear for us in the Algarve,” said Peter Booker, president of AHA.
“The programme falls into two distinct halves. Before the interval, Varoujan will perform another of Bach’s suites for solo cello, on this occasion Suite no 4. After the interval, we shall have Schubert’s Arpeggione, followed by the Allegro apassionato by Saint-Saëns – for both of which Varoujan will be accompanied by Irene at the piano.”
Tickets cost €30. Peter said: “Ticket prices have been €25 for nearly 10 years, and we have decided to increase it now to €30. This increase will allow us better to reward our performers.”
