Occupancy levels beat 2023 figures
Hotels in the Algarve are experiencing increased demand for New Year’s Eve, with occupancy rates expected to surpass 80%.
According to Algarve tourism boss André Gomes, the rates are due to rise 5% to 6% compared to the same period in 2023.
“The outlook is slightly better than what we saw last year. Hotels in our region anticipate an occupancy rate above 80%, slightly exceeding last year’s figures, with an increase of around 5% to 6%,” Gomes told TSF radio. He highlighted that the highest demand, unsurprisingly, is concentrated on the nights of December 31 and January 1.
This surge in bookings – taking into account hotels that are open this month – is largely attributed to the many New Year’s parties that are held across the region, said Gomes, who heads the Algarve tourism association (ATA) and board (RTA).
The towns of Loulé, Albufeira, and Portimão are emerging as the most popular spots, the tourism chief added.
