Suggestions regarding Algarve MetroBus project can be submitted until March 13
The construction of the Algarve’s future MetroBus is under public consultation until March 13, the regional development commission (CCDR Algarve) has announced.
The proposed 37.6km route is expected to link Faro, the Gago Coutinho Airport, the University of the Algarve campus in Gambelas, Montenegro, Parque das Cidades in Loulé (near the Algarve Stadium) and Olhão.
Over €203 million will be invested in the construction of the network, which will involve creating bus-only lanes, new stops, viaducts, tunnels, an energy supply system and the necessary signposting.
The proposed MetroBus route was designed to meet the daily travel needs of people living in Faro, Olhão, and Loulé. At the same time, it connects key locations that are major job hubs in the region. Because so many people travel to these places for work and business, the metrobus aims to provide a fast, efficient, and reliable transport option to reduce traffic and make daily commutes easier.
The project foresees possible expansions to include even more Algarve hotspots like Quarteira, Almancil, and Albufeira after 2029.
Anyone interested can review the full project documents, including the detailed route and cost estimates, by visiting the CCDR Algarve or Participa websites. Suggestions and feedback can be submitted until March 13, 2025, through the Participa portal and addressed to the CCDR Algarve board of directors.
Once the public consultation ends, all collected opinions will be analysed and considered in the final project design. The feedback will play a key role in shaping the project, ensuring it supports energy transition and improves quality of life for residents, CCDR Algarve adds.
