Algarve musician dies in head-on collision on EN125

Algarve musician Paul Camilo, guitarist with the band Karapaus Allimads, died yesterday in a head-on collision with a bus on the EN125.

The accident happened just before 8am, and due to the absence of break marks on the tarmac, police are considering 50-year-old Camilo may have suffered a ‘sudden illness’ (or fallen asleep at the wheel) before his Peugeot 407 collided with the bus which was on its way to Faro airport.

The Peugeot was ‘completely destroyed’, writes Correio da Manhã today. The bus (travelling without passengers) was also badly damaged: its 59-year-old driver suffering light injuries, and requiring treatment in Faro Hospital.

From CM’s description, Paul Camilo’s vehicle crossed the highway in the area of Almancil, careering into the bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The Facebook page of Karapaus Allimads has carried a tribute to Camilo today, saying: “This time the news is not good, sadly we have received the news that our guitarrist Paul Camilo, was the victim of a traffic accident, and unfortunately did not survive. We are without words”.

UPDATE: Tragically, the weekend’s accident news continued to deteriorate, with two more deaths and a serious injury early this (Sunday) morning:

These latest fatalities also happened in a collision between two vehicles on the EN125, also in Almancil, but this time on the Troto bypass. The two dead are understood to have been men in their 20s, while the serious injured victim is a young woman who was transported to Faro Hospital.
