Algarve racetrack welcomes Superbike World Championship

Portimão’s “rollercoaster” will host the first round of the European series

The Algarve International Racetrack (AIA), in Portimão, will host the first round of the Superbike World Championship European series, which will take place between March 28 and 30, with Italian rider Nicolo Bulega leading the championship, standing on 24 points, followed by Italian Andrea Iannone with 16 points, and Danilo Petrucci with 12 points.

The three-day programme will feature nine races for the first European stage of the year, as well as other entertainment in store for the whole weekend, which is expected to attract a significant number of motorcycling enthusiasts.

Paddock entertainment will once again include the usual Paddock Show, where the drivers will be on hand daily in addition to the races. Additionally, a DJ will be playing in the food area next to the AIA pool.

Over the weekend, “Hot Lap” events will allow thrill seekers to experience the circuit’s demands at high speeds. In addition, the “tourist train” will be available for a more relaxed ride through the circuit’s 15 turns.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30, there will be two open pit lane sessions for fans during the second stage of the World Superbike Championship. Motorcyclists will also be able to complete a lap of the circuit on their bikes in a controlled and safe environment during the bike parade at the end of the day.

The SBK season began on February 22-23 in Australia and will pass through the Netherlands, Italy, Czech Republic, among other countries. It will return to Portugal for the 11th and penultimate round, taking place in Estoril on October 11-12, before concluding in Spain on October 18-19 this year.

Tickets to the event start at €25, and can be purchased online.
