Bikers prepare BBQ for children and staff at Gaivota Youth Home in Albufeira
Algarve Senior Bikers recently celebrated 14 years of the group’s existence with a barbecue at the A Gaivota children and youths’ home in Albufeira.
Having the BBQ at Gaivota allowed members to meet the children and staff of the home and see where the money raised at the ASB events throughout the year is used to benefit the children.
David Shirley, founder of ASB, led a ride from Boliqueime to the home via the viewpoint above the pretty village of Alte before stopping at the nearby Fontes for a coffee and then on to Gaivota for the celebrations.
As a result of the event, David was able to present Dra Raquel Nunes, the director of the home, with €1,790, including some much-appreciated donations from people unable to attend.
ASB member Ken Blunt also handed over another €250 from the Vale de Milho Members Club.
Dra Raquel, together with two of the residents, thanked the ASB for the continued support and presented David with a painting appropriately depicting a ‘gaivota’ (seagull) and a motorcycle as a token of their appreciation.
David Shirley said: “On June 10, 14 years ago, I started the Algarve Senior Bikers Group, so it was nice to see at least two members who were at the first meeting of the group and some new faces as well. My thanks go to all the ASB members who have supported me over the last 14 years and long may it continue.”
