Algarve’s “biggest wine event” returns this weekend

Hundreds of Portuguese wines on display in Albufeira

The Portuguese Wine Show (Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal) will take place in Albufeira this weekend, bringing hundreds of Portugal’s best wines to the Algarve.

Taking place between Friday and Sunday (April 12-14) at the Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira, the event is described as the “biggest wine event in the Algarve”.

Visitors will be able to get to know and taste some of the latest additions to the Portuguese wine market, as well as wines that are not commonly found at supermarkets, wines made by small-scale producers and other “hidden secrets,” say the organisers.

The event will also host the 9th Portugal Wine Contest, where the wines vying for the title of the best national wine will be tasted by a jury of experts.

The wine show will begin at 3pm on all three days, closing at 8pm on Friday and at 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, but those who want to taste the wines will have to buy an official glass for €5.

Last year’s event attracted around 9,000 people, a number that organisers – Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira and Albufeira Municipal Council – are hoping to at least match.
