Over 50 students competed in the first school-organised surfing meeting in the Algarve, held at the Rocha Baixinha Nascente beach in Quarteira on January 24.
Organised by the Drª Laura Ayres school group in Quarteira, the event was part of the national Desporto Escolar (School Sports) schedule and was backed by the Parish Council of Quarteira, Municipal Council of Loulé, sports store Joca Sports and local association Dinamika – Vilamoura Surf Project.
More than 50 athletes competed in five different categories, representing schools with surf teams from Lagos to Fuzeta.
The next stage of the school surfing circuit is scheduled for mid-March at Praia da Rocha in Portimão.
