A new brand of wines entitled Herdade Barranco do Vale will be launched at Casa Museu João de Deus in São Bartolomeu de Messines on Saturday, July 21 at 7pm. Five wines (four reds and one rosé) will be unveiled.
The project is led by Ana Matias Chaves who is making the most out of a vineyard in the rural area of Campilhos, Messines, which has been in her family for generations.
Alongside her husband, she has been preparing the launch of the wines for two years.
The highlight of their production is the 2017 rosé, which is described by the producer as “fresh, light and slightly sweet”.
Herdade Barranco do Vale will also unveil a red reserve wine from 2016 which is a blend of Negra Mole, Aragonez and Castelão grapes and has been aged for 20 months.
The new producer will also present three red wines from 2017. One is made with reserve monovarietal Castelão grapes and another with a blend of reserve Castelão and Aragonez grapes. The last is a monovarietal Aragonez.
Although she hasn’t’ revealed how much money was ploughed into this project, Chaves admitted it was a significant investment.
“I think it was worth it. We believe in these wines,” she told Barlavento newspaper.
The wines were produced in Lagoa’s Única winery by oenologist João do Ó.
