Fire-damaged roads to be renovated as part of the initiative
The municipal council of Aljezur is preparing to launch a major road maintenance and repair project, with planned works totalling more than €3.7 million. This ambitious project will see repairs and upgrades across several key roads in the municipality, including those affected by the 2023 wildfires which ravaged parts of the borough.
Among the roads scheduled for repair are Rogil/Azia, Maria Vinagre/Odeceixe, Estrada da Cruz, Carrascalinho/Corte Sobro, and Vales/Arrifana, with works due to begin this month.
In addition to these works, the municipality will focus on repairing fire-damaged roads, including sections like Ponte de Odeceixe/Martins Estevens, Perdigão/Descampadinho, Montinho das Quartas/Martins Estevens, and the EM1002 (Descampadinho to Vale de Águia). This part of the project will be co-financed, with 60% covered by the government’s Municipal Emergency Fund and the remaining 40% funded by a bank loan.
Other roads and public areas are also slated for upgrades, such as the Arrifamar Urbanisation, the Carrapateira/Sítio do Forno road, Vilarinha/ER268, and the requalification of Largo do Povo in Odeceixe. The streets of Charneca and Ceifeiras in Igreja Nova will also see improvements, as well as the section of the ER268 connecting Moinho da Légua to the Vila do Bispo border.
To ensure proper funding for these extensive repairs, the municipality has initiated the process of securing a loan of €2.3 million.
