The total amount needed for renovations at CASLAS is €15,000
Students, staff and parents of Aljezur International School recently completed an 11km sponsored walk to raise funds for the renovation of the CASLAS children’s home in Lagos.
Their target was €2,000 so they were delighted to announce that the final amount raised was €3,436.
CASLAS is located near the main bus station in Lagos. It is currently home for 27 young people aged 12 to 21 who have suffered different kinds of trauma in their young lives and are taken from unhealthy, sometimes dangerous family situations. They are given a safe place to live, attend school, taught life skills, and provided with meals and counselling.
State funding provides for only their basic needs, leaving no money for building upgrades. In order to improve the residents’ living conditions, an extensive project is being planned to renovate three common areas in the home: the study room, dining room and kitchen.
All three rooms need to be painted and electrics updated. The laminate floor that has buckled in the study room needs to be replaced with tiles. The kitchen needs to be totally renovated into a functional domestic kitchen, complete with appliances, counter tops, and cabinets where the kids can be taught cooking skills.
The team of contractors chosen for this project are providing greatly reduced pricing on materials as well as labour, meaning the total amount needed to pay for all these renovations is €15,000.
This renovation project is the brainchild of local residents, Peter and Mary Farmer. It is possible to donate directly to the dedicated account for this fund:
