All under-35s to benefit from exemption from Stamp Duty and IMT

All under-35s heard today that from August 1 this year they will be exempt from paying Stamp Duty and IMT on the purchase of their first homes. The only limit is the cost of the property: exemptions will not apply to any property costing more than €316,772. Homes/ apartments up to €633,000 will still see under-35s ‘discounted’ in terms of taxation payments up to the amount of €316,772. Any property more expensive will not qualify for any discounts. The government explains it will ‘reimburse’ municipalities for the loss of revenue from IMT taxes (which revert to municipalities on property transactions), while the prime minister stressed this was part of the AD strategy to dissuade Portugal’s future generations from emigrating.
