Almond blossom festival’s full programme to be announced on January 3
Castro Marim’s almond blossom hiking festival ‘Festival das Amendoeiras em Flor’ will return to Alta Mora for its second edition between February 3 and 5, 2023.
The inaugural event was held on February 1 and 2, 2020 and dubbed a massive success, with organisers guaranteeing at the time that the event was “here to stay.”
However, the Covid-19 pandemic forced organisers to suspend the event for two years.
The programme for the 2023 edition is still to be confirmed, although some noticeable differences have already been announced.
The festival is being extended from a two-day to a three-day event, while more hikes and new shows are promised, as well as larger versions of its street market and artisan village.
The event will also feature gastronomic demonstrations and almond planting workshops, as well as a space “dedicated to traditional agriculture and forests.”
The event is organised by the Recreational, Cultural and Sports Association of the Friends of Alta Mora (ARCDAA) and aims to “promote and revitalise the values, traditions and identity of the territory, with the main goal being to fight desertification and the galloping depopulation of the Algarve’s inland mountains.
“Thus, the second edition aims to establish itself as one of the big cultural events of the region’s tourism agenda during the low season,” organisers add.
The festival is a spiritual successor to the series of hikes previously known as ‘Amendoeiras em Flor’ (Almond Blossoms), which had been held since 2005.
The full programme is due to be unveiled on Tuesday, January 3.
