Almond Blossom Festival returns for fourth edition
The picturesque village of Alta Mora in Castro Marim is gearing up to host the Algarve’s iconic Almond Blossom Festival (Festival das Amendoeiras em Flor) from January 31 to February 2, a winter tradition that has blossomed into one of the region’s standout events.
Organised by the Associação Recreativa, Cultural e Desportiva dos Amigos da Alta Mora, the festival transforms this quaint village into the “Capital of Almond Blossoms,” celebrating the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Algarve’s hills.
What began as simple hikes among the almond blossoms has flourished into a festival that highlights the Algarve’s rich identity and traditions, especially its almond blossom-covered landscapes.
The festival will feature everything from scenic hikes ranging from six to 20 kilometres to live music, street performances, workshops, and the unveiling of a 43-metre rolled almond sponge cake (torta). There will also be a street market and activities for children, organisers say.
Performers like ARUTLA, António Manuel, Diabo a Sete, and Al Fanfare will bring the festival to life, along with unique attractions like living statues featuring Maria Antónia.
Tickets cost €3 (€2 for children aged 11 to 14) and can be purchased on the event’s website. Free shuttles will run from nearby towns, including Castro Marim, Vila Real de Santo António, and Monte Gordo, several times a day throughout the festival.
