Alqueva reservoir at 80% following last week’s rains

The Alqueva reservoir in the Alentejo rose by 1.87 metres in the last week, thanks to a few days of heavy rain. It is now at 80% capacity, José Pedro Salema, president of EDIA, the Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company says, and even this is set to increase due to discharges envisaged for dams in Lucefécit (Alandroal) and Monte Novo (Évora). According to Correio da Manhã, the amount of water captured in the last week (79 hectometres) is equivalent to a full year’s worth of urban consumption in the Algarve.
