Alqueva reservoir transfers 100 million cubic meters of water to seven struggling dams

The Alqueva reservoir has transferred 100 million cubic meters of water to seven other dams in the districts of Beja, Évora and Setúbal this year due to the drought, José Pedro Salema, president of EDIA, the Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company, has said today. This translates into more than three times the volume of water transferred last year. The benefiting dams were Odivelas (Ferreira do Alentejo), Roxo (Aljustrel), Fonte Serne (Santiago do Cacém), Morgavel (Sines), Vigia (Redondo), Monte Novo (Évora) and Enxoé (Serpa). Salema stressed than even so, Alqueva is “in a fairly comfortable situation”, in theory with enough water to get it through the next two years…
